How to Post Information on a PHP-nuke Home Page

3

There are three ways to put information on the home page.

  1. Make a permanent block for the top or bottom center of the page (see the section on making a block). Only admins can do this.

  2. Use the messages icon on the admin panel to post a notice. This allows you to select an expiration time, as well as who can see it. This is the only way to put up a notice that is for registered users only. Messages are second on the page after any top center block. The most recent message will be at the bottom of the list of messages. A message can also be permanent. Select language "all" if you want all languages to see it. Else select the language it is written in. Only admins can add messages.

  3. Submit a news article (submit announcement on some sites). If news is submitted regularly, then old news will scroll off the home page. Otherwise an article has to be moved off the front page by editting it and then clicking the "Publish in the home"button to no. On some sites you might move the article from the category "articles" to the category "archive." Most admins do not have the privilege to delete a news article. The most recent news article will be at the top of the list of articles below the messages and any center block. Anyone can submit a news article but it will not be posted until an admin approves it. Admins can use the admin panel icon "Add Story" to submit news directly.

Let's look at the exact steps used to add a news article after clicking the admin "add story" button:
    • Scroll past the admin icons to the story boxes, fill in the "Title" box with the article title.
    • Select the topic for the story from the pulldown list - if no topic suits go use the admin topic icon above to add a new topic and then come back.
    • If one or more of the associated topics is relevent, check it, this is optional.
    • Leave the category selected as "article" and leave the next several checkboxes checked.
    • Put the first paragraph or so of the article in the "Story Text" box, this is what will appear on the home page
    • Put the rest of the article in the "Extended Text" box, this is the rest of the article that will be seen when someone clicks on the "Read More"
    • Ignore the program story stuff
    • The pulldown list at the bottom has "preview story" and "post story" with an OK button next to it. Click the OK button to preview your story. Make any changes and then preview again or post it. Remember this needs HTML formatting so you must use the command <br> whenever you want a line break
If you have a function called "Upload News," you can upload a word processor file that has been saved in RTF format to a news article.
